History of Hillside

Hillside Court commenced providing accommodation for women in 1955. Initially it was providing accommodation to women moving from the countryside to Melbourne. The building consists of three two story Victorian Terrace houses which were built in the 1880’s. Hillside Court has very detailed ceiling roses, cornices and skirting boards which are an indication it was built during the 1800 gold rush. The building has the name “Hillside Court” because it is on the side of a hill. The current owners of the business called Hillside Court took over in 1997 and have continued providing accommodation to women only. Hillside Court is a Prescribed Accommodation Premises, Rooming House.
